First round of entrance exams held in Kabul

The first round of entrance exams were held in Kabul on Sunday. 10,911 students took the exams. The number of people taking the entrance exams has increased.”  The Minister of Higher Education, Ubaidullah Ubaid, said, “From a total of 10,911 participants, 40% were female.”  According to officials there will be four more rounds of entrance examinations in the capital city of Kabul.More>>>

 

India aids Afghanistan’s first agricultural university

Afghan President Hamid Karzai and visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid inaugurated the first Afghan agricultural university in southern Kandahar province on Saturday. “The National Agricultural Science and Technology University is a key achievement for the higher education of Afghanistan. It is an important step forward for the upgrading of agriculture in the country,” Karzai said. Khurshid said the university supported by India would further enhance bilateral ties and agriculture sector in the landlocked nation. More>>>

Kyrgyz Embassy Opens in Kabul

The Embassy of Republic of Kyrgyzstan was opened in Kabul in a ceremony attended by the Kyrgyz foreign minister, a number of foreign Ambassadors and diplomats on Saturday. The Kyrgyz foreign minister Erlan Abdyldayev said the opening of embassy indicated the friendly relations and long-term support of Afghanistan. Abdyldayev added the historic ties between the two countries were based on real friendship and cooperation. More>>>

President Karzai orders changes to women’s rights law

KABUL, Afghanistan — President Hamid Karzai on Monday ordered changes to a draft of new criminal legislation in response to an international outcry warning it would severely limit justice for victims of domestic abuse, his spokesman said. Afghanistan’s parliament had passed a new criminal procedure code that would ban relatives from testifying against alleged abusers. Karzai’s spokesman, Aimal Faizi, said the president was “well aware” of the criticism and decided at a Cabinet meeting Monday that the legislation must be changed. More>>>

Originally it was held in the Springfield Sports Bar / Restaurant, Wazir Akbar Khan.  It was held in the garden as much as possible despite the noise from generators.   Afghanistan stun Australia for first win

Afghanistan Under-19s pulled off a major upset by defeating Australia Under-19s by 36 runs in Abu Dhabi. Afghanistan’s top order were at the forefront of the victory, as Mohammad Mujtaba (75), Ihsanullah (63) and Hashmatullah Shaidi (57) all scored half-centuries to propel the team to 253. The team had lost Usman Ghani in the first over of the innings, but Ihsanullah and Mujtaba steadied the innings with a second-wicket stand worth 126 that gave Afghanistan a solid platform to build on. For Australia, James Bazley and Cameron Valente picked up three wickets each. More>>>

Cricket Australia’s national talent manager Greg Chappell says he can understand why people on the other side of the world might be getting a bit carried away. But the Test great says Australia’s 37-run loss to Afghanistan at the under-19 World Cup in Abu Dhabi isn’t a case of the sky falling in. “We’ve got to be careful not to over-react in these situations,” Chappell told AAP from Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. More>>>

Afghanistan have called up an uncapped Najeeb Tarakai in place of Afsar Zazai to boost their batting for the World Twenty20. The flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad will continue to open the innings for Afghanistan and Tarakai will be expected to add more power to the top order. Afghanistan also announced the squad for their maiden Asia Cup appearance.More>>>

  Afghanistan Cricket Continues to Achieve

The Asian Cricket Council recently announced the winners of the Asia Region winners of the Pepsi ICC Development Program Annual Awards. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has taken out two of the regional awards:  the Best Overall Cricket Development Program and the Best Junior Participation Initiative.     The awards were established to recognize exceptional performance and service to the game of cricket in Associate and Affiliate member countries. Afghanistan will now join winners from the 4 other ICC Regions at the ICC Global Awards later in the year.More>>>
