Celebrate Afghanistan’s Diverse Heritage in a Family Fun, Free Outdoor Festival!
5th Annual Afghan Arts and Culture Festival on Sunday, October 12th at Gateway Park in Arlington, Virginia from 11am until 7pm.
The Afghan Festival has become the largest Afghan-American event in the DC metropolitan area with over 2,500 participants last year alone! The event is a great platform to preserve, promote and increase knowledge of the Afghan culture and traditions within the general public. It provides an opportunity for cultural exchange and allows the Afghan diaspora to share the positive side of the Afghan culture that is often not shared by the international media. In addition, this Festival aims to increase advocacy and active participation within the DC metropolitan area towards the sustainability effort in Afghanistan.
The festival includes fun activities for all ages:
- Cultural dance performances
- Afghan bazaar
- Afghan food vendors
- Kite-making workshop
- Afghan arts and crafts
- Musical performances
- Authentic ethnic cuisine
- Fashion show
- Art exhibitions
- Family activities
- Nomad tent where you can dress up like an Afghan
- Face-painting and henna
- Youth Afghan-American Pageant
- Musical performances by Fardeen Nawaz, Nived Sultan, Ebadullah Ebadi, and Ajmal
- Performances by comedian YouTube sensations, Qias Omar and Harris Khattak
We are also pleased to announce that this year’s event will give an opportunity for several non-profit organizations to sell/auction off merchandise. The proceeds will benefit their respective organizations to promote their work in Afghanistan.
Raffle funds raised from the festival will benefit Afghan Education for a Better Tomorrow’s health and education programs in Afghanistan.
