The Big Three

Kabul-e-News wishes all Afghans and foreigners living the country a safe and successful Election Weekend.  We pray that Allah will bless Afghanistan with a new president who will work for peace and ensure the development and prosperity of all Afghans.

We pray, too, that Almighty Allah will grant eternal rest
to those who have died, health to those who have been injured
and comfort to all families who have suffered loss as a result of pre-election violence.

  Paywast SMS Survey – Elections

Paywast recently conducted a large-scale elections survey across Afghanistan. People were asked if they know how to register to vote, if they had received a voter’s card, if they felt voting is safe, and if they would consider voting for someone outside their own ethnic group. They were asked to share their home province and gender, and to share their opinions, thoughts and comments around elections. More than 100,000 data points were collected.  You can see the survey results in Pashtu, Dari or English by visiting their website.More>>>

  Roshan Goes Multinational

The largest mobile network operator in Afghanistan is now a multinational company. Roshan Telecom is taking its network to Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania. That makes telecoms Afghanistan’s most high-profile export after opium.  In 2001, only 80,000 of Afghanistan’s 21 million people had access to a telephone. In 2002, when the first mobile company started operations, a SIM card cost $250. Today, with its population around 30 million, Afghanistan has more than 20 million active SIMs, which can be picked up for under $1 and put in a $10 handset. The average Afghan makes about US $45 a month. More>>>
